Bellamy's birth came as a sort of surprise to his parents, as neither of them had much of a resemblance to the little guy apart from his mother's turquoise eyes. They weren't even aware they had jellyfish blood in them, which led to some concerns in raising him. Their greatest concern at the time had been his swimming ability. In the ocean, swimming was one of the most important talents an Xerin could have, but Bellamy's physical make up already made it clear that he was at a disadvantage.
Initially, Bellamy wasn't considered venomous, part it was true for a while, but without warning, nematocysts developed in his tiny tentacles. These were quickly discovered by his mother who was stung while innocently giving her young one a hug. Thankfully, the stingers weren't fully developed, and she managed to survive the sting with what little medical help their tribe could provide. The tribe then dealt with him the way they had dealt with previous Xerin like him, by simply having him tie up his tentacles and wear a special hat. It was slightly embarrassing, but highly effective.
Over the next couple of years, it became clear that Bellamy was never going to be much of a help to the tribe. He lacked the abilities required for many of the tasks they completed on a regular basis. He was just over the age of seven, when a doctor had a recommendation. He wanted to see if he could extract the venom from Bell's tentacles, in hopes of using it to improve their hunting efforts. Out of fear that he'd never be capable of anything else, Bell's parents reluctantly agreed, and the cap came off of his bell for the first time in a while. The doctor took multiple attempts at draining the venom, to little luck. Eventually, he resorted to using a sharp fish scale, essentially to cut the venom out. Upon contact with one of the tentacles, Bellamy flinched suddenly, and made contact with the doctor. The tentacles were far more developed than they had been previously, which led to a different result than what occurred with his mother. After a few terrifying minutes, Bellamy was alone in an empty room with the vessel of the doctor lying on the ground.
It was incredibly unfortunate, but everyone believed him when he explained what happened and most of the tribe managed to move on the same as ever. Bellamy on the other hand, grew to be quiet. He felt guilty for what happened, even if he knew it wasn't on purpose. He didn't interact a whole lot with the other children before, but it became worse. He spent a lot of time alone, more than any kid should, which only made him feel more distant. Until, a girl who he barely knew showed up, wanting to know if he wanted to play. He had mixed feelings about it, but his parents quickly pushed him to go socialize, having been worried about their son for some time.
She introduced herself to him, and he did the same to her. Her name was Nemone, and she'd come to cheer him up because she hadn't seen him around much lately. It was possibly the kindest thing that anyone besides his parents had ever done for him.
They saw various sights from around town, and for the first time, Bell felt as if he had a real friend. It was an incredible feeling, but it was short lasted, as they came to the last stop on Nemone's little tour. It was farther from his home than he was allowed to go, but Nemone assured him it was safe. They were going to head through a small current, which was something he wasn't sure he could do, but Nemone told him she'd hold his hand to make sure he got across safe. They pushed off a rock, and started through, but half way, Nemone let go. Bell wasn't sure if it was an accident, or if it happened on purpose, but he didn't stick around long enough to find out. The current swept him up in an instant, and dragged him much faster than he could swim.
He never knew the truth, which was probably for the best. Nemone was the daughter of the doctor he'd accidentally killed, and the entire play date was a set up to cast him away.
Over the next couple of days, Bell pushed against the current. He'd tire himself out, then he'd swim again, and he repeated this same pattern for four straight days. None of it mattered though, he was a weak swimmer, completely at the disposal of the water. His efforts only helped to burn out his energy.
On the fourth day, he washed up on a beach, his first time ever touching land. He'd been told long ago that upon making contact with the surface, he'd gain the ability to transform. However, after taking seven steps out of the water, he collapsed face first into the sand, passing out from exhaustion.
He was woken up by a screaming sound, and found just that when he opened his eyes. Three men, two standing, while one laid balling on the ground. It seemed that the man had touched one of his tentacles in an attempt to wake him, and it ended up being the end of the man's life. Bell expected anger from the others, but was instead met with praise. They assured him that the loss of their comrade was not his fault, and then made him an offer. They'd take him back with them, and give him food and shelter, and in exchange, he would aid the faction of hope on its mission for salvation. It was a stroke of luck, at least in Bell's eyes.
He adapted quickly to the new life they offered him, and to an extent he preferred it to his old life. He never did figure out how to take a human form, but it seemed he could somehow breathe air, which was good enough for him. His job was fairly simple too. An elf with great magical prowess had discovered a way to extract venom from him in a matter of minutes, and did this twice a day. Once in the morning, and again at night. He was only ever told that the venom was being used for the faction's cause. But the real use was in the form of torturing prisoners. The venom was almost like a truth serum. All they had to do was inject it into a prisoner using a knife, then they just asked the questions they needed answers too while waving a cure for the venom right in front of their faces.
Bell was taught of the wickedness of the dragon's, led by a terrible golden monster. As well as their hero Nina, who he learned to praise despite never getting the chance to see her. His mind was quickly filled, the faction's ideas drilled into his naive head.
He continued playing his part, until a wise dragon prisoner saw what was happening for himself and devised a plot to stop it. The venom was causing soldiers to snap when questioned. It was a tool for them, and it came from the jellyfish. Which meant that he could help his people if he somehow took care of Bell. And so he did, the best he could from a jail cell. He convinced Bell that he was the great man o' war, a jellyfish man destined to defeat Queen Verrideth single handedly.
The plan worked, Bell took the bait without second guessing anything. And without getting a single person for help, Bell left his post, dead set on locating the evil queen. He took a bow, a knife, several of the antidote for his venom, and a wagon with a canteen of water loaded on top. He was a jellyfish on a mission. A mission with no actual odds of success.
